- Frequency matters: comparison of drug resistance mutation detection by Sanger and next-generation sequencing in HIV-1. [Journal Article]J Antimicrob Chemother. 2023 Feb 04 [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: We found high concordance between SS and NGS but also a substantial number of low-abundance HIV-DRMs detected only by NGS at lower variant-calling thresholds. Our findings suggest that a substantial fraction of the low-abundance HIV-DRMs detected at thresholds <3% may represent sequencing errors and hence should not be overinterpreted in clinical practice.

- Determinants of ejection fraction improvement in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction. [Journal Article]ESC Heart Fail. 2023 Feb 02 [Online ahead of print]EH
- CONCLUSIONS: Improvement in EF is independently related to the longer survival and lower CV related mortality and hospitalization rate of HFrEF. Elevated baseline NT-proBNP is identified as the strongest prognostic factor associated with increased CV events risk in HFrEF patients both with and without improved EF, regardless of age, sex, duration of HF, and other clinical risk factors.

- Cardiorespiratory fitness levels and body mass index of pre-adolescent children and older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. [Journal Article]
- The social and behavioral effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted the health and physiology of most people, including those never diagnosed with COVID-19. While the impact of the pandemic has been felt across the lifespan, its effects on cardiorespiratory fitness (commonly considered a reflection of total body health) of older adults and children may be particularly profound due to social …

- Prophylactic Mesh Placement During Formation of an End-colostomy Long Term Rct on Effectiveness And Safety. [Journal Article]Ann Surg. 2023 Jan 24 [Online ahead of print]AnnS
- CONCLUSIONS: Prophylactic mesh placement during formation of an end-colostomy is a safe procedure but does not reduce the incidence of parastomal hernia after five years of follow-up. It does, however, delay the onset of parastomal hernia without a significant difference in morbidity, mortality, or quality of life, and appears to be cost-effective.

- Stroke Counseling Intervention for Young Adult African Americans: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]Nurs Res. 2022 Dec 09 [Online ahead of print]NR
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that SCORRE is a promising intervention to reduce stroke risk among young African American adults. Results will inform a more robust, randomized controlled trial of SCORRE to have an age, culture, and gender-focused intervention that effectively reduces stroke risk among African Americans early in life.

- Simultaneous Multislice Accelerated TSE for Improved Spatiotemporal Resolution and Diagnostic Accuracy in Magnetic Resonance Neurography: A Feasibility Study. [Journal Article]Invest Radiol. 2022 Dec 09 [Online ahead of print]IR
- CONCLUSIONS: Implementation of SMS offers either to substantially reduce acquisition time by over 40% without significantly impeding image quality compared with the standard T2 TSE or to increase in-plane resolution for a high-resolution approach and improved depiction of T2 nerve lesions while keeping acquisition times constant. This addresses the specific needs of MRN by providing different imaging approaches for 2D clinical MRN.

- Background: Positive airway pressure (PAP) is a highly effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but adherence limits its efficacy. In addition, coverage of PAP by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) and other insurers in the United States depends on adherence. This leaves many beneficiaries without PAP, disproportionally impacting non-white and low socioeconomic position …

- CONCLUSIONS: Among brain-dead organ donors, therapeutic hypothermia was inferior to machine perfusion of the kidney in reducing delayed graft function after transplantation. The combination of hypothermia and machine perfusion did not provide additional protection. (Funded by Arnold Ventures; ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT02525510.).
